research degrees - getting started

before you get started on you research or PhD application there are some things you need to put together.  most australian universities will require the following:

1. •a research proposal written in english
   

2. •a minimum IELTS score of 6.5
   

3. •evidence of prior research experience
   

4. •letters of recommendation from employers or academics
   

5. •a copy of your resume
   

6. •a copy of your education transcripts
   

the research proposal should be not more than 500 words and should be concise and relevant.  a good outline to writing a proposal is found here.  AU Study has the staff and experience to help with this process.

finding a supervisor

once you have compiled these documents, it is time to find a research supervisor.  your supervisor will help you throughout the term of your research project so finding the right one is important.  universities will direct you to talk with members of their academia and will offer suggestions on who might best suit your particular area of study.  get to know your supervisor well; they are the key to a successful research experience.

the application

it is now time to enroll.  you will need to send your application, your application fee and your supporting documents.  it normally takes 6 to 8 weeks for the acceptance process as they check your references and the availability of supervisors.
